Now the amazing reaction in the dugout:
Baseball is fun, and sometimes we need reminding of this. Defense can only be entertaining for so long, and while Chris Archer has held the White Sox down well enough, my goodness is ten eleven runs on the board nice to see.

The previous rookies to homer in their first hit were outfielder Mikie Mahtook and starting pitcher(!) Nathan Karns. Tonight, Shaffer became the eighth rookie in Rays history to do so.
His home run was the 39th on the season by a Rays rookie, also a club record.
