Rays 6, Marlins 4: CITRUS SERIES

Boy do I love the Citrus Series. I love it so. Today's game was part of the Citrus Series. Here are highlights from today's game. It was from the Citrus Series.

• Drew Smyly tied the Rays record for most September strikeouts (45) by a Rays pitcher. The record was held by Scott Kazmir, and now ol' Smyly is a part of that too. It always baffles me that somewhere, in some faraway land, there is a fella whose job it is to curate these obscure stats in whatever capacity. Someone maintains the computer that keeps all of this together. Maybe it's me! (It's not me.)
• Smyly put the team behind early, but luckily the Rays answered the one run the Fish scored with one of their own. John Jaso, in the fourth, got the first hit for the Rays, and very quickly the Rays loaded the bases with no outs. Only one run was scored (an Asdrubal Cabrera sac fly) but it was enough to breathe a sigh of relief.
• Nick Franklin, a mere inning later, hit a homer to right to put the #RaysUp 2-1. It was a lead that they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the night.
• Grady Sizemore worked a 3-0 count in that fourth inning with the bases loaded and no one out, but still struck out. Great shame, Grady. That said, with the bases loaded in the fifth, he poked on to left that jussssssst stayed fair, clearing the bases and putting the Rays up 5-1. This only happened because a call at second was overturned thanks to replay. It took almost 160 games, but the replay luck finally went the Rays' way. Good job, MLB.
• Smyly left after pitching six innings, and allowing three hits, three walks, and eight strikeouts. Not bad for a guy whose career was over at the beginning of the season. #FriedmanFailure to #SilvermanSuccess
• Brandon Gomes came in and promptly allowed a hit. Oh wait, no he didn't:

Yeah, alright, Kevin. Do you think he knows he has the Gold Glove already? Has anyone told him that he doesn;t have to do this anymore?

• Rays relievers allowed one run each in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, but it hardly mattered thanks to the 6-2 lead after the seventh. Brad Boxberger came in, allowed that one run, but still got his 40th save on that year. It seems impossible that he's tied for the AL lead in saves, but here we are.
• Rays have won six straight in interleague play. If MLB expands and reorganizes the divisions like the NFL (4 divisions of 4 teams each) I wouldn't mind playing in the NL.

The Citrus Series ends tomorrow, folks. Cherish it as you would cherish each moment of your lives.
