Rays prospects ranked by Keith Law for 2016

Some love for the 2015 draft... and RHP Chih-Wei Hu!

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Keith Law released his list of top-ten Rays prospects this morning, and it's a doozy.

Before we get into specifics, here's the list:

Rank. Player, Position (Top-100 ranking, if applicable)

1. Blake Snell, LHP (14)

2. Taylor Guerrieri, RHP (35)

3. Brent Honeywell, RHP (64)

4. Daniel Robertson, SS (85)

5. Willy Adames, SS

6. Richie Shaffer, 3B/RF

7. Garrett Whitley, OF

8. Chih-Wei Hu, RHP

9. Jake Bauers, 1B

10. Chris Betts, C

11. Casey Gillaspie, 1B

12. Joe McCarthy, OF

13. Mikie Mahtook, OF

14 - tie. Enny Romero, LHP

14 - tie. Andrew Velazquez, UTIL

15. Justin O'Conner, C

16. Jacob Faria, RHP

17. Justin Williams, OF

18. Adrian Rondon, SS

19. Darrett Fulenchek, RHP

20. Kevin Padlo, 3B

The top two prospects from the 2015 draft make the list at No. 7 and 10 (slapping both with "star-potential" labels), as well as fifth round pick Joe McCarthy, who feel down the board due to back surgery right before the draft. All three graded as first round talents before injury derailed Betts and McCarthy, so the ranking has some merit.

Other surprises? RHP Chih-Wei Hu jumps into a surprising lead ahead of Bauers, with Law citing good reports from the Rays on his arsenal. He labels Hu his sleeper for 2016. Also, Richie Shaffer is listed as an outfielder, but Jake Bauers is not.

Behind the paywall, the full report is worth your time.

Law describes his skepticism of Adames's bat, and wonders whether he'll ever develop enough power to profile as a second baseman. He calls Shaffer an everyday player, and thinks his September call up is indicative of what's to come.
