Yankees extend Tampa stadium contract to 2046, propose $40m in renovations

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees are doubling down on their investment in Tampa, their long time home for Spring Training, extending their contract with the Tampa Sports Authority through 2046 and planning $40 million in renovations to their stadium.

The complex is located across the street from the Buccaneers stadium on Dale Mabry, and has been a thorn in the side of any Rays fan visiting the NFL stadium. A small hope had been that a Rays stadium move to Tampa proper would possibly diminish that influence, but the Yankees are certainly here to stay. How unfortunate.

"The Steinbrenner family is extremely proud to have called Tampa Bay home for decades and extending the New York Yankees' agreement with the community through 2046 is very important to us," Steinbrenner said.

Tampa Bay.

An intentional claim of the entire area, which includes several Spring Training complexes, and of course your Tampa Bay Rays.

Should the multitude of approvals be met, all $40 million in renovations are anticipated to be complete before Spring Training opens next off-season. It is especially worth noting that some percentage of the money will be provided both by Hillsborough county and by the state of Florida.
