Rays prospects and minor leagues: Bauers, Field lead Biscuits

Johnny Field hit a grand slam that propelled Double-A Montgomery to the win

Jim Donten

The Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs toppled the first-place Yankees in Florida State League action. The win came on all unearned runs.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (6-4)

Durham couldn't get much offense going and ended up losing 4-1. Nick Franklin had the only RBI on a single in the first. After that, the offense shut down with only two hits from the second inning on. Adam Wilk took home the loss and allowed three runs -- two earned. Kyle McPherson threw two innings, allowing a home run as his only hit.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (5-4)

Inversely, Montgomery's offense got the job done on Saturday night, cruising to a 5-1 victory. The BIscuits leaned on the long ball to take home the win. Johnny Field blasted open the game with a grand slam in the seventh, breaking the 1-1 tie. Field has a .324 average so far this year. Jake Bauers also hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Chris Kirsch had a solid start, allowing over one run over five innings. However, the win ended up going to Jared Mortensen, who had three no-hit innings in relief.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (5-5)

A costly error and solid pitching helped Charlotte beat the first-place Tampa Yankees 3-1. Thomas Milone got the lone RBI with a suicide squeeze bunt in the 6th to tie up the game. A fielding error by Tampa first baseman Mike Ford allowed two runs to score and gave Charlotte the lead it didn't give up. Kyle Bird threw 2 1/3 innings of relief and picked up the win. Brian Miller pitched a scoreless ninth to get his first save.

Class-A Bowling Green (4-6)

Bowling Green blew a ninth-inning lead and ended up losing by a 7-5 deficit. Reece Karalus entered the ninth for his second inning of work and failed to hold the lead, ending up with a blown save and the loss. Designated hitter David Rodriguez had two RBIs on a single in the sixth. Michael Russell had an RBI triple and a double. Joe McCarthy and Manny Sanchez each had one RBI as well.
