Tampa Bay Rays Acquire Carlos Corporan from New York Yankees

Following the departure of Rene Rivera, the Rays catching corps were depleted

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

This afternoon, the Rays acquired Carlos Corporan for cash considerations, not to be confused with Kevin Cash -- who may, or may not be player/manager this season.

In late January, Corporan was signed by the Yankees as a non-roster invitee and instead of opting out of his deal, the Yankees instead traded him to the Rays.

Throughout his 10 years in professional baseball, Corporan has a couple of prolonged stints in the majors, most notable with the Astros in 2014 when he slashed .235/.302/.376 with six home runs over 55 games. Last year, Corporan split the season between the majors and minors with the Texas Rangers.

Corporan is likely to spend the bulk of the season in Triple-A Durham and will serve mainly as an insurance policy in case something happens to the hulking duo of Curt Casali and Hank Conger.
