Rays prospects and minor leagues: Bauers, Goetzman slug Biscuits to victory

Richie Shaffer had a two-run double in extra innings to get Durham the win

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs had a 13-inning game, but ended up losing the marathon affair. Alec Sole had an RBI triple in the loss.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (9-6)

It took an extra inning, but Durham pulled out the win over Norfolk, 4-2. Carlos Corporan drove in Kyle Roller on a RBI single in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2. Then, Richie Shaffer hit a two-run double in the top of the 10th inning to break the tie, and the Bulls held the lead in the bottom of the inning to take home the win. Jhan Marinez pitched two scoreless innings in the 9th and tenth to get the win.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (8-6)

Montgomery cruised to a victory in an afternoon matinee, beating the Tennessee Smokies 8-1. Second baseman Juniel Querecuto hit a grand slam in the second and designated hitter for the game, Jake Bauers, hit a solo shot in the third inning. Granden Goetzman was a home run short of the cycle and logged an RBI. Johnny Field and Kean Wong also contributed RBIs. Chris Kirsch delivered six one-run innings, and Steve Ascher pitched three innings for his first save.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (8-7)

Charlotte had to go four extra innings for a decision and ended up falling to the St. Lucie Mets, 5-4. Alec Sole and Pat Blair had the only two RBIs in the game for the Stone Crabs, as the other two runs came on a St. Lucie throwing error. Jeff Howell pitched the last two innings for the Stone Crabs and allowed the deciding run, taking his first loss of the season.

Class-A Bowling Green (6-9)

The Hot Rods lost a slugfest in Michigan, losing to the Great Lakes Loons, 7-5. Starter Roel Ramirez let up four runs in three innings, and reliever Armando Bastardo allowed two more in the next three. Designated hitter David Rodriguez had two RBIs, and catcher Brett Sullivan drove in three runs on a solo home run and a two-run double. Shortstop Jake Cronenworth is still on his hot streak, going 2-for-4 to keep his average at .434.
