Rays prospects and minor leagues: Call-ups shake up pitching staffs

Blake Snell's promotion to the majors causes a chain reaction for the affiliates

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

Chih-Wei Hu will make his second career start in the International League Saturday. Who will take his place with Montgomery? Perhaps Brent Honeywell -- who along with Blake Snell and Hu -- was scheduled to pitch Friday, and of course, only Honeywell did.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (9-6)

Durham was postponed, and it will make up that game Saturday.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (8-7)

Montgomery was thoroughly outplayed in its 8-0 loss to Jacksonville. With Chih-Wei Hu scratched for his promotion, it was a bullpen game for the Biscuits with Jared Mortensen allowing two runs in three innings. Both Buddy Borden and Brett Marshall were charged with three runs -- one earned.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (9-7)

Fort Myers nearly got to Brent Honeywell, but it was not enough in Charlotte's 4-2 win over the Miracle. Trailing 2-0 in the third, Fort Myers got its leadoff hitter on thanks to an error, and he would eventually score on a wild pitch. The Miracle added another run in the inning, but Honeywell would cruise the rest of his outing, allowing two runs -- one earned -- in 6 2/3 innings with seven punchouts and no walks. Jace Conrad led off the fifth with a double and scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (7-9)

Genesis Cabrera was impressive yet again in Bowling Green's 5-0 win over Great Lakes. In a career-high 6 1/3 innings, Cabrera set a career best with nine strikeouts, allowing just three hits and walking one batter. With two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth, Kevin Padlo drove in three with a double. A Michael Russell single in the fifth and Jake Cronenworth squeeze bunt in the ninth added insurance.
