Game 20 Preview: Tampa Bay Rays vs Baltimore Orioles

The Rays go for the series victory against the division leaders

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Archer's return to dominance last night propelled the Rays to a 2-0 shutout of the Orioles has the Baltimore bats -- with the exception of Pedro Alvarez, who was apparently in a slump -- couldn't figure out the Rays young ace. The victory placed the Rays just a game under .500, with a record of 9-10, just two and a half games back of the Orioles who top the division with a record of 11-7

Jake Odorizzi 0 1 22.2 4 3.97 2.68 24.2% 4.2% 2 .275 .348 0.7 4
Ubaldo Jimenez 1 1 17 3 3.71 3.62 27.0% 10.8% 2 .288 .386 0.2 3

Jake Odorizzi had his worst outing of the year last time out as Boston racked up five runs against him thanks in large part to a rough first inning as all five runs came during that frame. Nonetheless, Odorizzi only lasted four innings and gave up the five runs on eight hits, as he walked one and struck out three.

*Rays Tidbit - If Jake Odorizzi strikeout more than three batters tonight, he'll move past Victor Zambrano for 10th in franchise history.

Ubaldo Jimenez Scouting Report:

The former National League Cy Young candidate has struggled since joining the Orioles before the start of the 2014 season and so far he is off to a so-so start in 2016. After an excellent start to the year with a stellar seven inning performance against the Twins, Jimenez has turned in back to back five inning efforts. His last time out was on Wednesday against the Blue Jays when he gave up two runs on five hits -- including a homer -- while he walked four and struck out six. He has particularly struggled with the walks, giving up eight over his last 10 innings pitched.
