There were nice performances for each affiliate Thursday, both in the batter's box and on the mound. From Jaff Decker in center field to Patrick Leonard in the outfield to Jake Hager at third base and Jake Cronenworth at shortstop, I was pretty interested by a lot of defensive positions too.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (1-0)
Blake Snell was unable to start his season with 49 straight scoreless innings, but he was solid in Durham's 7-3 win over Charlotte. The Minor League Player of the Year allowed two runs in five innings with five strikeouts, and Dylan Floro followed with five strikeouts in three innings, only allowing a run. The Bulls broke the game open with a five-run second inning that included RBI hits from Patrick Leonard, Luke Maile and Richie Shaffer.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (0-1)
Jacob Faria ran out of steam after five innings in Montgomery's 6-0 loss to Jackson. After holding the Generals scoreless through five innings, he was knocked out after allowing an RBI single with two outs in the sixth and would be charged with three runs in 5 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts. The Biscuits accumulated just four hits, two of which came off the bat of Johnny Field.
Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (0-1)
Charlotte wasted a strong Brent Honeywell start in its season-opening 5-3 loss to Palm Beach. Honeywell faced the minimum through three innings and went on to allow just a run in six innings with five strikeouts, but Palm Beach closed the game with five unanswered runs after Jace Conrad's RBI single gave the Stone Crabs a 3-0 lead in the sixth. Reliever Mike Franco was charged with four runs -- two earned -- in the eighth.
Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-0)
Kevin Padlo made a splash in his Rays debut with a home run in Bowling Green's 7-1 win over Dayton. After walking in his first trip to the plate, Padlo's two-run shot in the third inning put the Hot Rods ahead for good, and he would later draw another walk. Starter Jose Mujica allowed just a run in five innings, and Jose Alvarado and Ian Gibaut combined to strike out nine in four innings of relief.
