Game 24 Preview: Tampa Bay Rays vs Toronto Blue Jays

The Rays go for their second series victory of the homestand behind Jake Odorizzi

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

With their victory last night, the Rays moved into sole possession of third place in the division, one game up over the Blue Jays, but still three games back of the Baltimore Orioles.

Today's Starting Pitchers:

2016 W L ERA FIP K% BB% BABIP AVG HR fWAR GS IP
Marcus Stroman 3 0 4.37 4.00 13.6% 6.4% .222 .208 3 0.3 5 35
Jake Odorizzi 0 1 3.58 2.86 20.7% 4.3% .353 .288 2 0.8 5 27.2

After beginning the season with three solid starts, Odorizzi suffered a five run first at the hands of the Boston Red Sox, and would only last four innings -- giving up just those five runs. Then, in his follow up start his last time out, Odorizzi battled through five innings against the Orioles, but gave up just one lone run on seven hits walking and striking out just hitter apiece.

Marcus Stroman Scouting Report:

Stroman is off to a decent start for the Blue Jays, as he's given his team opportunities to win each time out and with his offensive backing, he usually has picked up the win. He faced the Rays on opening day and pitched eight full innings, allowing just three runs on six hits, walking a batter and striking out five. His last time out was on the 25th against Chicago, where he received a no-decision after pitching two outs in the seventh inning, surrendering four runs on six hits.
