Game 34 Preview: Tampa Bay Rays vs Oakland Athletics

Kendall Grave has been extremely prone to the longball away from Oakland, can the Rays capitalize

Extremely depressing news from earlier today that Logan Forsythe will likely more than a month on the disabled list thanks to Felix Hernandez's arrant pitch that fracture Forsythe's shoulder blade. The Rays will have to rely on some players, who had been relegated to bench status this year, to replace Forsythe who was in the midst of the best season of his career.

The Rays have lost four games in a row after last night's defeat, which put the Rays three games under .500 with a record of 15-18, six and a half games back of the division leading Baltimore Orioles. Meanwhile, the Athletics snapped their five game losing streak, and now have a record of 15-21, also six and half games back of their division leaders.

TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS:

2016 W L ERA FIP K% BB% AVG BABIP HR GS IP fWAR
Kendall Graveman 1 4 5.74 6.24 19.4% 7.9% .276 .286 9 6 31.1 -0.4
Matt Andriese 1 0 1.29 3.51 12.0% 12.0% .182 .211 0 1 7.1 0.1

Matt Andriese came up on Sunday for a spot start to allow Matt Moore to receive the start against Seattle instead of Los Angeles, so Andriese proceeded to make the start and stymy the Angels for seven innings and impressing as he worked his way out of the few jams he got himself in.

Kendall Graveman Scouting Report:

The home run ball has plagued Graveman this season, especially on the road as he had somehow, miraculously allowed eight home runs in just under 14 innings pitched on the road away from Oakland. He'd faced 66 hitters as the visiting pitcher, so that makes it a home run percentage of 12%.

His last start ended fairly quickly as he was removed before the completion of the third inning as he had already given up six runs on five hits -- four homers -- leading to his third straight loss.
