Offense was hard to find in both Durham and Bowling Green, with both teams managing little in their games. Justin Williams returned to action for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, driving in a run in their loss.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (18-26)
Jaime Schultz had a rough outing and the Bulls were clobbered by the Rochester Red Wings, 12-2. Schultz lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs, including two home runs. Brad Boxberger made an appearance but looked rough, lasting just two-thirds of an inning while allowing two runs. Mikie Mahtook went 2-for-2 before being pulled as he is headed to the majors to replace the injured Kevin Kiermaier. Juniel Qurecuto replaced him and drove in a run, and Richie Shaffer had the other RBI for the Bulls.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (23-18)
Inversely, the Biscuits dropped 12 runs on the Birmingham Barons in a complete 12-3 win. Jacob Faria had a career start, going seven innings while making only one mistake, a solo home run. The home run was the only hit Faria allowed, and he struck out 11. Mike Marjama and Granden Goetzman each had three RBIs, with Goetzman knocking a three-run home run. Goetzman had the chance for even more RBIs, but left three runners in scoring position. Willy Adames and Kean Wong knocked two RBIs apiece, and Johnny Field had a solo home run. Casey Gillaspie had a sacrifice fly in the fourth for his 18th RBI of the season, and Jake Bauers doubled and scored three times.
Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (22-22)
A six-run second inning by the Lakeland Flying Tigers buried the Stone Crabs, and they never could fully come back in a 9-5 loss. Benton Moss gave up six runs -- three earned -- and lasted just 1 2/3 innings before having to be pulled, taking his fourth loss of the season. Justin Williams returned to the lineup for the first time since April 19, driving in a run on a sacrifice fly and knocking a double. Cade Gotta hit a solo home run and Alec Sole had a one-run single to get Charlotte's two other RBIs. Sole later scored on a fielding error in that same inning.
Class-A Bowling Green (22-20)
Bowling Green dropped both games of a doubleheader, falling in the first game, 5-1. Jake Cronenworth scored the only run on a wild pitch in the first inning. Genesis Cabrera allowed nine hits and five runs in his second loss of the season. The Hot Rods looked even worse on offense in the second game, managing only one hit in a 3-0 loss. Michael Velazquez landed his fifth loss of the year after allowing three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
