Rays prospects and minor leagues: Bulls beat by former Ray

Roberto Hernandez is still at it

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

With short-season leagues about to start, which prospect are you most excited to finally see in a box score this season?

Triple-A Durham Bulls (30-38)

A six-run deficit was too much for Durham in its 6-4 loss to Buffalo. The Bisons were all over starter Eddie Gamboa in the second inning with five runs, capped by Jesus Montero's two-run single with two outs. He could not get out of that inning, and Mark Sappington allowed the final run over three innings of relief. Johnny Field's solo home run in the sixth started the Bulls' scoring, and Kyle Roller's two-run shot an inning later highlighted a three-run frame. Former Rays Roberto Hernandez got the win.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (33-33)

Chris Kirsch turned in another nice effort in Montgomery's 4-2 win over Chatanooga. A start after throwing seven scoreless innings, this time Kirsch allowed two runs -- one earned -- on three hits and two walks in six innings with four strikeouts. He got some nice support early when Kean Wong drove in two in the first inning. Jeff Ames struck out two in two scoreless innings of relief.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (33-33)

Statistically, Ryan Webb was not great in his return to action, but Charlotte was able to beat Dunedin anyway, by a 4-2 score. After striking out the first batter he faced, Webb allowed a solo home run, and he gave up another hit and hit a batter before being relieved by Ian Gibaut to finish the inning. Grant Kay started the scoring with an RBI single in the second, and he later scored on a passed ball. Kay doubled in another run in the sixth, and starter Chris Pike allowed an unearned run in 4 2/3 innings.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (33-32)

Genesis Cabrera pitched a complete game in Bowling Green's 5-1 Game 1 win of the doubleheader against Lake County. It was just seven innings, but he allowed the run in the second inning on a passed ball. He allowed just two hits, walked four and struck out three. David Olmedo-Barrera doubled in what proved to be the game-winning run in the third, and Brett Sullivan drove in two insurance runs an inning later.

A pair of home runs gave the Hot Rods a 7-5 win over the Captains in Game 2. Trailing 3-1, David Rodriguez slugged a three-run blast in the fourth to put Bowling Green ahead. Lake County immediately responded with two in the fifth, but Kevin Padlo's two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning returned the lead to Bowling Green for good. Starter Jose Mujica allowed five runs -- four earned -- in five innings.
