New York-Penn League ball opens up today, with 2015 first-round draft pick Garrett Whitley (who I ranked as the Rays No. 6 overall prospect) leading Hudson Valley's roster in terms of prospect power.
As the Rays start inking contracts with their 2016 draftees, they will start to assign them to different teams. Those assigned to the Renegades include:
- 10th-round RHP Spencer Jones
- 12th-round RHP Brandon Lawson
- 19th-round 3B Jim Haley
- 24th-round RHP Joe Serrapica
You can look at the full roster here.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (30-38)
Durham was off.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (33-34)
A strong start from Chih-Wei Hu went for naught with the Biscuits dropping a 1-0 pitching duel to the Chattanooga Lookouts. Hu just allowed one unearned run in six innings while striking out four. Ryne Stanek made another appearance out of the bullpen with two perfect innings. Stanek looks like he will remain in the bullpen after his struggles in the rotation this year. Mongtomery's offense only managed three singles overall from Juniel Querecuto, Casey Gillaspie, and Kean Wong.
Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (33-33)
Charlotte is on the All-Star Break until June 20.
Class-A Bowling Green (34-32)
Bowling Green went on an offensive tear in a 14-7 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The offense more than made up for starter Blake Bivens allowing three runs over five innings and gave plenty of cushion when Yoel Espinal allowed four runs in the bottom of the ninth. Brett Sullivan led the scoring with three RBIs on a two-run single and sacrifice fly. Joe McCarthy, Brandon Lowe, and Angel Moreno all tacked on two RBIs each. Kevin Padlo, David Rodriguez, and David Olmedo-Barrera all padded the lead, driving in a run apiece. Padlo also walked three times, scored three runs, and stole third base.
Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (0-0)
