Although Charlotte is playing its first game after the All-Star break Monday, it's still a first-half game. The Stone Crabs have an elimination number of one and sit 3 1/2 games behind Bradenton for the first-half division title.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (30-41)
Durham's offense showed up for once, but its pitching didn't in its 10-6 loss to Norfolk. Daniel Robertson's first-inning double to score Johnny Field gave the Bulls a quick 1-0 lead, but the Tides were all over Adam Wilk and built a 9-2 lead through five innings. Wilk allowed eight of those runs in 4 2/3 innings. Field drove in three runs, and Robertson plated two.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (34-36)
Taylor Guerrieri did the bare minimum for a quality start in Montgomery's 5-3 win over Chattanooga. After a string of solid starts, Guerrieri was not too effective, statistically, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks in six innings with two strikeouts. In relief, Ryne Stanek was again effective, striking out three in two scoreless innings. Jake Bauers and Patrick Leonard each had three hits.
Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (33-33)
Charlotte was off.
Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (37-32)
Bowling Green closed its first half with a 13-0 rout over Fort Wayne. The Hot Rods sent 19 batters to the plate in two innings as they built an 8-0 lead despite only collecting six hits. Joe McCarthy homered in the third, and Michael Russell also went deep later in the contest. On the other side of the ball, four Hot Rods pitchers limited the TinCaps to three hits, led by Roel Ramirez. He tossed what is likely the best start of his career to date, striking out eight and only allowing three hits and a walk in six scoreless innings.
Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (1-2)
Hudson Valley coughed up four unanswered runs in its 7-6 loss to State College. Angel Perez tripled twice early in the game and came around to score both times, and the Renegades' final run came on a flyout off his bat in the fourth. Starter Brock Burke allowed five runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts. The Spikes tied the game against Deivy Mendez in the seventh, and they walked it off on a passed ball in the ninth.
