With the Rays’ season seemingly in a downswing, other teams have called GM Matt Silverman and asked about the availability of some Rays’ pitching. According to Jon Morosi, the Miami Marlins have been one of those teams and have “had contact with the Rays on Jake Odorizzi”.

The Marlins have had a surprising solid start to the 2016 season and are currently tied for the 2nd Wild Card spot in the National League with the Mets and sit 6.0 games out of 1st in the NL East.
Miami’s pitching has been struggling behind ace Jose Fernandez, with FA aquisition Wei-Yei Chen posting a 5.22 ERA, and one of their top young arms Juan Nicolino was just sent back down to AAA New Orleans after 55 innings of 5.15 ERA ball.
This is just a preliminary discussion, and more than likely the Marlins doing their research and due diligence on one of many potential trade targets before the August 1st deadline.
