Tampa Bay Rays Acquire Oswaldo Arcia from Twins, Designate Andrew Bellatti for Assignment

The Rays have added some much needed outfield depth

The Rays acquired recently DFA’d out-of-options “OF” Oswaldo Arcia from the Minnesota Twins. The 25 year-old Arcia has struggled this year as he’s hit .214/.289/.369, .289 wOBA, 78 wRC+.

In 2014 he had a strong year against RHP where he hit .249/.321/.527 and 135 wRC+ with 17 homers in 268 plate appearances. For his career he has hit .243/.316/.469 and 115 wRC+ with 34 homers in 662 plate appearances.

He has been a useful at bat at times and is young enough there is some upside in the bat, but he has struck out at a 40.4% rate in 114 plate appearances. His career rate is at 31.5%.

His defense has been really bad in the outfield, so the Rays will need him to hit and likely use him as a DH. In 1933 career innings in the outfield he has posted a -13.3 UZR/150 and -30 DRS.

Andrew Bellatti overcame injuries to finally make the majors last season and posted a 2.31 ERA and 5.23 FIP over 23.1 innings in limited time riding the Durham Shuttle. He has only managed to pitch 5.1 innings in Durham this year and his last appearance was on April 30.
