Ryne Stanek had a great start last Saturday, bouncing back from his last two starts where he allowed six runs. Willy Adames hit his seventh homer of the year, furthering the argument that the 20-year old is ready for Triple A.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (25-32)
Durham pulled out a win in an slugfest, a 9-8 victory over the Gwinnett Braves. The Bulls and Braves exchanged the lead four times overall. Daniel Robertson drove in four, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Richie Shaffer went 3-for-6 with an RBI, and Jaff Decker walked three times and also drove in a run. Johnny Field didn't register a hit but drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Finally, Dayron Varona ended the game on an RBI single off of Reid Brignac, who now has a infinite ERA. Durham's bullpen was stretched thin as well, with catcher Mayo Acosta pitching the 10th inning. Ironically, Acosta had the best outing of any of Durham's pitchers last night, being the only one who didn't allow a run.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (28-27)
Willy Adames' two-run home run in the ninth was the game-winning hit in Montgomery's 3-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns. The home run was Adames' seventh of the year, and one more will tie his career high in a season. A Jake Bauers RBI single in the third gave the Biscuits an early lead before the Suns tied up the game in the fifth. Ryne Stanek struck out 10 in six innings, his second-highest total in a single game in his career, his highest being twelve July 2, 2014 while with Class-A Bowling Green. Montgomery's bullpen was strong in relief, allowing only one hit while adding another five strikeouts.
Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (29-28)
Charlotte's offense went to town in a 12-4 rout of the Tampa Yankees. The Stone Crabs had 15 hits while capitalizing on four Tampa errors for four unearned runs. However, Charlotte also allowed four unearned runs, committing three errors themselves. Riley Unroe had a career game, knocking five RBIs (a career high), including a three-run home run. Alec Sole, Bralin Jackson, and Cristian Toribio all added an RBI each. Toribio was 4-for-4 overall, with a walk, double, solo home run, and three runs scored. Yonny Chirinos had another solid start, picking up his fifth win while allowing only five hits but being charged with two unearned runs in six innings. Johnny Venters made his first rehab appearance, walking two and striking out one in an inning of work.
Class-A Bowling Green (29-26)
Despite falling behind early, Bowling Green rallied back and emerged with a 5-2 win over the Lansing Lugnuts. Kevin Padlo had a great game, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBIs, and two walks. Brandon Lowe also had two RBIs on a two-run double. Joe McCarthy contributed an RBI single for his 21st run driven in of the year. Blake Bivens made his second start since being returned from Charlotte, allowing two runs over five innings. Bryan Bonnell went three innings allowing only one hit and striking out five, and Diego Castilla shut the door on the Lugnuts in the ninth for his fourth save of the season.
