Happy Belated Independence Day everyone! Sorry for the late recap, as I'm out of town celebrating with my family, and we spent the day enjoying some MiLB baseball here in Charlotte, NC. I hope everyone enjoyed celebrating our nation's freedom and all those who fight and have fought to preserve it with numerous hot dogs, brews, and copious amounts of pyrotechnics.
Speaking of pyrotechnics, Logan Morrison provided the fireworks for the Rays' offense yesterday.
After Brad Miller got Tampa Bay on the board with a home run in the bottom of the third off of Angels' starter Nick Tropeano, Morrison had to answer with a solo shot of his own to deep right field.
That wouldn't be all LoMo contributed, as he picked up an RBI single and scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Matt Moore continued his strong run of quality work of late, throwing 6.2 innings of 2-run ball. He scattered six hits over those innings and, while he only struck out three Angels' hitters, he only walked two, keeping his self-inflicted damage to a minimum. Also to Moore's credit, he kept the power-hitting combo of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols to a combined 2-for-9 with no runs and no RBIs.
Impressively, the bullpen came on and didn't implode, not even allowing a single run and only two hits over 2.1 innings of work. Erasmo Ramirez and Dana Eveland earned holds while Ryan Garton tried to make things interesting on his way to a two-out save, giving up a walk and a base hit in the top of the ninth.
That does it for me here, as I get ready to catch a flight back to the 813. I hope everyone had a fun and a safe holiday weekend and I want to say thank you to all of the men and women who serve our country at home and abroad, as well as their families. Your sacrifices allow the rest of us to enjoy the freedoms that make America the greatest country on Earth. Thank you.
