For the first time since his outing on May 16th (seven starts) Drew Smyly did not allow a home run...he still came away with a loss, but at least there's a positive. Smyly pitched two outs into the seventh inning and if he had some better defense behind him, as well as a better bullpen, his line would look a lot better but in the end he allowed six runs -- four earned -- on six hits, while he walked four and struck out eight.
Jered Weaver Scouting Report:
Weaver hasn't thrown a pitch faster than 87 miles per hour all season, but he is still able to get major league hitters out...sometimes, and sometimes he gets lit up. Against the Rays earlier this season, he allowed just two runs over six innings, and he is now just two starts removed from a three hit shutout of the Oakland Athletics. However, during his last outing, he allowed six runs on seven hits -- one homer -- while he walked four and struck out three pitching one out into the sixth inning coming away with his seventh loss of the season.
