Rays trade Brandon Guyer to Cleveland Indians

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Rays appear to have traded right handed platoon outfielder Brandon Guyer at the MLB Trade Deadline, according to Marc Topkin.

Guyer is a versatile outfield defender who has primarily manned left field for the Rays in a career mired by injuries. Guyer is also a hit-by-pitch specialist in the aggravating mold of Shane Victorino.

Originally acquired alongside Chris Archer from the Cubs, Guyer is under team control for two more season and is out of options. Last season Guyer sported a 121 wRC+, and this year holds a 111 wRC+, making him among the Rays best hitters over the last two seasons.

Early reports indicate Guyer is being traded to Cleveland for 2015 seventh round draft pick Nathan Lukes and another prospect.

OF Nathan Lukes is an interesting get. The left handed hitting outfielder was recently promoted to High-A after batting .301/.375/.453 with a .383 wOBA and 143 wRC+ in 393 PA at the Class-A level, including 14 SB, 5 HR, 9.4 BB%, and 15.3 K% in his age-22 season.

RHP Jhonleider Salinas is a rookie ball pitcher in his age-20 season who has turned in a 2.66 ERA and 2.81 ERA over the last two seasons in the low minors. This year he has 36 stikeouts and 11 walks over eight appearances. He is listed at six foot, 205 lbs.
