MLBDailyDish ran a General Manager confidence survey that we asked everyone to participate in last week, and the results are... Not good! Front offices were rated on a five point scale, with five being the highest, and their scores were averaged to create a composite rating for each general manager/front office team.
After more than 3,000 entries, the Rays rank 25th among teams for confidence, and the choice blurb to articulate that confidence came from commentor SNP:
25. Tampa Bay Rays – 3.1
“The Souza trade was awful, but the more minor deals have been pretty decent. He brought in Brad Miller, but also LoMo. Whitley is off to a slow pro start, while Lowe has been great so far. There's good and bad. He seems average.” - @SandalsNoPants
The only teams ranked lower than the Rays were the Marlins, Twins, Reds, White Sox, and Diamondbacks. Oh the company you keep.
As the Rays get set to face the Padres this week, the Myers-Souza trade comes back into full view. Have the Rays misplaced continued faith in Souza? Will he ever become what the projections think he should be? Would Myers have ever succeeded in Tampa Bay after becoming a supposed clubhouse cancer? What if the Rays just let him drink his big gulp and left him alone?
The Rays are not yet a winning team under President Silverman. Winning inspires confidence. It’s not surprising that Tampa Bay Ranks this low in the survey.
