TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS:

2016 W L ERA FIP K% BB% AVG BABIP HR GS IP fWAR
Edwin Jackson 3 2 4.19 4.42 14.8% 10.4% .245 .273 4 5/13 43.0 0.2
Blake Snell 3 4 3.08 3.20 22.8% 11.6% .242 .317 2 9 49.2 1.1

Snell had a forget his last time out, or maybe remember as a good learning experience as he admitted he was overamped for the start. The Blue Jays knocked him around for five runs before the second inning was finished and Snell by that point had lost any feel for the strike zone and was gone after recording two outs in the second. His final line was five runs -- two earned -- on five hits, one home run, while he walked four and struck out two.

Edwin Jackson Scouting Report:

Danys Baez & Lance Carter -> Edwin Jackson -> Matt Joyce -> Kevin Jepsen -> Chih-Wei Hu

The above trade sting began back in 2006 and over a decade later has progressed to this point. This is just from Rays trades mind you, Edwin Jackson has been traded numerous times for numerous players over his career.

This has nothing to do with tonight's game, just a historical observation.

Anyway, the Padres picked up Jackson after the Marlins let him go in June. After being used exclusively in the Marlins bullpen, the Padres added the well traveled Jackson to their starting rotation and he's been about as good as you can hope for since joining them. Over five starts, he has an ERA/FIP of 3.62/3.91. His last start was exceptional as he shutdown the Pirates for seven innings in Pittsburgh, while he allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out seven.
