Montgomery and Bowling Green both lost last night to end their playoff runs.
Hudson Valley still is on the hunt, looking to capture the New-York Penn League championship. The Renegades will take on the State College Spikes, the St. Louis Cardinals affiliate. The championship will feature Hudson Valley’s stellar pitching core taking on State College’s upper-level offense.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (1-3)
Montgomery’s season came to an end after an 8-2 loss to the Jackson Generals. The Biscuits were behind from the start, with Hunter Wood allowing three runs in the first inning. Patrick Leonard struck back with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning, but Wood gave up four more runs in the fifth. Yonny Chirinos yielded one more run before the fifth was over, and from there Montgomery had little chance for a comeback. Granden Goetzman knocked in another run in the ninth, but it wasn’t nearly enough to save the Biscuits’ season.
Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-2)
Bowling Green had the game in hand before the bullpen collapsed as they fell 5-2 to the Great Lakes Loons. Blake Bivens surrendered a first-inning run, but settled in from there as he tallied eight strikeouts over six innings. Landon Cray gave the Hot Rods the lead with his two-run home run in the third inning. The lead lasted until the seventh, when Elias Torres allowed two runs to the Loons. Torres gave up two more in the eighth, burying Bowling Green.
