During Sunday's series finale against the New York Yankees, Logan Morrison sliced a ball foul and in doing so, he injured his wrist. He would exit the game during the middle of the plate appearance and following the game, he told reporters that he doubted he'd play another game this year. Morrison reiterated that statement prior to tonight's game against the Blue Jays.
The Rays only have 20 games left this year and with rosters expanded so the Rays will have plenty of depth to replace Morrison in their lineup, who had been relegated to DH duties and the occasional first base start. It has truly been a roller coaster season fro Morrison. After being acquired by the Rays last November in a six player deal, he started the year with one of the worst months in franchise history, only to rebound with one of the best.
Since that time, he has been treading water as well as spent two separate stints on the disabled list. So far this season, over the course of 107 games, Morrison has slashed .238/.319/.414 with 14 home runs and he accrued a total of 0.5 fWAR. Once the season concludes, Morrison at 29 years old, will become a free agent for the first time in his career.
