Tampa Bay Rays News and Links: Alex Cobb Starts Tonight

Alex Cobb will be starting his first major league game since September 28th, 2014

Rays News:

  • Alex Cobb is finally back after a two year absence from the major leagues due to Tommy John surgery that he underwent during the early months of the 2015 season. Expectations obviously have to be tempered for his return to the mound, but with the Rays out of the playoff hunt, there is little to no pressure for Cobb to dominate in his return.
  • The Rays announced their first wave of September call ups as they selected Curt Casali, Ryan Garton, and Eddie Gamboa from Triple-A Durham. The Bulls season wraps up after Labor Day, so the Rays will make the next wave of promotions following the holiday...with Tom Beckhsm likely to be among them
  • Topkin has notes on the Rays call-ups, plus B.J Upton will be making his return to the Trop
  • Also, Topkin recaps Cobb’s long road to recovery with several quotes team mates and coaches
