ORLANDO — The 2017 Winter Meetings are finally here! Although there is always a lot of buzz surrounding the Winter Meetings, the Rays historically don’t pull any big trades during the Winter Meetings. The trade that brought Logan Morrison and Brad Miller to Tampa Bay happened before the meetings, and both Wil Myers trades and the Jake McGee/Corey Dickerson trade happened after.
Even though Rays’ trades typically don’t happen during the meetings, the groundwork for those and other trades are laid out, and it is the scene where the early stages of the trades form.

One thing we may look forward to is FA signings. Last year the Rays made the surprise signing of Wilson Ramos’ two year deal at the Winter Meetings. With the big targets off the market in Stanton and Ohtani, the FA and trade dominoes may start falling in Orlando.

This will be my first time at the Winter Meetings. I’m not sure what to expect, but I am excited to experience it all! I’ll be covering all the days of the Winter Meetings and giving you as much access as my Media badge allows me to.
The Winter Meetings are the oddest and weirdest and bestest 4 days of the offseason. Gonna be a bunch of fun.

I’ve already had a chance to scope things out, pick up my badge, and get a lay of the land. There is an insane amount of things going on, from a job fair, to countless TV and Radio set-ups to even a baseball trade show. Awards have been handed out, newcomers to Cooperstown have been elected, and FA deals have been announced. There is an exciting energy surrounding the Swan and Dolphin Hotel of potential deals to come.

Since this is our first time, what would you like to see at the Winter Meetings?
