Yesterday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 7-3 to improve their record on the spring to 2-1.
Some notables from the game
- Joe McCarthy went 2-2 with two walks, a double, and he also homered.
- Justin Williams faced live pitching for the first time this year...he struck out three times in three at-bats
- Chris Archer made his spring debut, hurling two scoreless innings, striking out two, walking one, and he allowed a hit
- Kevin Gadea made his first spring appearance as he hopes to make the opening day roster and tossed a scoreless inning
Today the Rays will take on the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater at 1pm. The game will be available on MLB.tv with the Phillies’ broadcast.
Blake Snell will make his spring debut for the Rays, with Ryan Garton, Deigo Moreno, Jeff Walters, Jose Alvarado, and Hunter Wood also slated to go to the hill.
The Rays only have two of their regulars in the starting lineup.
Corey Dickerson is leading off, a spot that the Rays may be looking to groom him for, and playing DH. From left to right in the infield, Patrick Leonard is manning third base with Daniel Robertson at short and Nick Franklin playing second. Casey Gillaspie is over at first.
Catching Blake Snell will be Michael McKenry who is competing for the starting catcher job for for the Rays.
In the outfield will be Jake Bauers, Dayron Varona, and Justin Williams
