When the Boston Red Sox acquired Chris Sale this off-season, they immediately became the division favorites and possibly the American League favorites. After all, they had the reigning Cy Young winner in Rick Porcello and David Price to go along with Sale.

Now troubling news this morning that David Price, the 2012 American League Cy Young wnner, is dealing with elbow soreness.

The Red Sox had him undergo a MRI yesterday and now they’re seeking a second opinion. Needless to say, he has been scratched from his next start.

David Price began his has the number one overall pick in the 2007 draft by the Rays and he made the leap to the majors just one year later serving as a weapon out of the bullpen as the Rays marched through the playoffs.

He spent the next several years carving up lineups across the league and even managed to reinvent himself after losing velocity as he became more control oriented. He would be traded a couple of times to a couple of playoff hopeful teams before signing a record breaking contract with the Boston Red Sox during the 2015-2016 off-season.

Price is under contract through the 2022 season and he will make $187M over that time (AAV of $31.2M).
