Fresh off yesterday’s battering of the Baltimore Orioles, in which the Rays had a 12 run sixth inning, the Rays will take on the Minnesota Twins in Port Charlotte at 1pm with MLB.com carrying an audio stream of the game.
Jake Odorizzi heads to the mound for the Rays as he makes his final preparations before the regular season commences on Sunday. Expected to follow him will be Xavier Cedeno, Alex Colome, Tommy Hunter, Jumbo Diaz, and Jaime Schultz who was actually optioned to Durham earlier today.
The Rays are sending out most of their regulars today, starting with Corey Dickerson leading off and playing left field. In center is Kevin Kiermaier, and Steven Souza Jr finishes up the outfield.
In the infield from left to right will be Daniel Robertson, Willy Adames, Brad Miller, and Logan Morrison. Derek Norris is behind the plate with Evan Longoria as the designated hitter.
The Rays are just a few roster moves away from finalizing their Opening Day roster as only a couple of spots are left to be decided. They currently have a full 40-man roster, but will need to add Jesus Sucre, Tommy Hunter, and Rickie Weeks by Sunday. They will have to make their choices with Peter Bourjos who is competing with Mallex Smith for the final outfield spot, while Nick Franklin and Daniel Robertson are also competing.
Jumbo Diaz’s spot in the bullpen is also undecided as the Rays aren’t set to announce him on the Opening Day roster.
