Rays DOTF 4/20: Honeywell Makes AAA Debut

Mujica also debuts at AA

Minor League Baseball: Arizona Fall League-Fall Stars Game Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Brent Honeywell and Jose Mujica made their AAA and AA debuts after being promoted due to the trickle down effect of the Jake Odorizzi and Taylor Guerrieri injuries. Honeywell allowed two homers and didn’t pick up many strikeouts. Mujica had a similar start without the homers allowed.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (8-5)

Brent Honeywell made his AAA debut. It didn’t go as well as you’d like, but it wasn’t awful. Honeywell allowed two homers and only picked up one strikeout while allowing three runs in six innings. The Bulls lost to the Indianapolis Indians 8-5 in an afternoon matchup. Michael McKenry put the Bulls up 2-1 with a two run shot in the second. The Bulls didn’t put up much of a threat until Granden Goetzman came through with a three run homer in the eighth to put the Bulls down one, 6-5. Willy Adames picked up a double as the only other Bulls extra base hit.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (7-6)

The Biscuits fell to the Jackson Generals 8-7 after a walk-off double by Kelly Dugan. Justin O’Conner continued his hot start by singling home the first run of the game for the Biscuits. After falling behind 3-2 after four innings the Biscuits took a 7-3 lead mid way through the eighth after a three run inning that saw the Biscuits score twice on bases loaded walks. Justin Williams picked up a RBI double in the fifth. Nick Ciuffo continued to do non-Nick Ciuffo like things picking up a double and two walks as part of his two hit night. Jose Mujica had a solid AA debut throwing 6.2 innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out one and walking two.

Class A-Advanced Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (5-9)

The Stone Crabs made sure the Rays minor league affiliates weren’t shut out of the win column after coming back to win 4-3 after falling behind three through one inning. Michael Velasquez settled down after allowing a three run bomb to Narciso Crook. The big hit of the night belonged to Josh Rapacz. He came through with a two run single with the bases loaded in the sixth to tie the game at three. Angel Moreno reached on an error in the top of the eighth that scored Brandon Lowe.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (6-6)

The bout between the Hot Rods and the Lake County Captains was suspended with the Hot Rods leading 2-0 after four innings due to rain. Back to back to back doubles by Jesus Sanchez, Michael Brosseau, and Nathaniel Lowe put two runs on the board in the first. The Rays faced former number one overall pick Brady Aiken. J.D. Busfield threw four perfect innings picking up two strikeouts.
