Rays DOTF 4/27: Jesus Sanchez Homers Twice As Affiliates Sweep The Day

OF Jesus Sanchez led the offense. Ryan Yarbrough, Yonny Chirinos, Eduar Lopez, and Brock Burke led the pitchers.

The four Rays affiliates completed a sweep down on the farm. Strong starts by Ryan Yarbrough, Yonny Chirinos, Eduar Lopez, and Brock Burke led the way. The Bowling Green Hot Rods offense went off led by Jesus Sanchez’s two homer performance.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (13-6)

The Durham Bulls rode a strong start by Ryan Yarbrough to a 5-2 victory over the Syracuse Chiefs. Yarbrough earned the win throwing 6.1 innings allowing six hits and two runs while striking out eight and issuing no free passes. The Chief drew first blood in the with a single run in the third, but the Bulls answered with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to take a 4-2 lead before Dayron Varona tacked on a solo homer in the eighth. Patrick Leonard continued his scorching start with two doubles and a walk. Willy Adames added a single and a walk. Jake Bauers added a single. Ryne Stanek picked up the save.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (11-8)

Yonny Chirinos out pitched very good pitching prospect Mike Soroka in leading the Biscuits to a 5-2 victory over the Mississippi Braves. Chirinos threw 6.2 innings allowing two runs on eight hits. He struck out six while not allowing a walk. Braxton Lee put the Biscuits on the scoreboard with his second homer of the season and career in the third inning. The Biscuits tacked on four more in fourth capped off by a three run homer by Riley Unroe. In a rehab stint Colby Rasmus went zero for four with a strikeout. Diego Castillo picked up the save.

Class A-Advanced Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (8-11)

A four run rally in the sixth led the Stone Crabs to a 4-1 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays. Eduar Lopez was wild but effective for the Stone Crabs. He allowed a single unearned run in the fifth inning. He struck out four and walked four in six innings. David Rodriguez kicked off the four run sixth with a single ahead of a Jake Cronenworth single. With one out Brett Sullivan reached on a fielding error to load the bases for Kevin Padlo. Padlo earned a walk ahead of a Brandon Lowe infield single and error on the first baseman that caused two runs to score. Ryan Boldt executed a safety squeeze for the fourth run of the inning. In his second rehab start Mallex Smith was one for four.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-9)

Hot Rods bats erupted on way to a 11-3 win over the Dayton Dragons. Young outfielder Jesus Sanchez was the offensive star of the night as he led the way with three hits including two homers and four RBI. Adrian Rondon, Lucius Fox, and Garrett Whitley all contributed with multi hit efforts. 2014 third round pick Brock Burke continued his hot start to the season by throwing seven innings allowing one run, only his second of the season in 20 innings. Burke struck out six while walking two. Every bat in the Hot Rods lineup picked up at least one hit.
