Update, 2:15: Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports Schultz has a groin injury and notes a similar injury he had at the end of last season.
As of 11 PM Friday when I'm writing this, as far as I know, this is the latest on the Jaime Schultz situation:
Triple-A Durham Bulls (2-0)
Shane Peterson's 13th-inning home run broke a 4-4 tie in Durham's 6-4 win over Gwinnett. The Bulls had been held off the scoreboard since Peterson's RBI double in the fifth and accomplished very little over the next seven innings. Johnny Field later added an insurance run when his single scored Jake Hager. In relief of Chih-Wei Hu, Jaime Schultz had to exit early due to his reported injury. Hu allowed three runs -- one earned -- in five innings with four strikeouts, but he did give up two home runs.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (0-2)
Montgomery's late rally fell short in its 5-3 loss to Biloxi. Already down 5-0, the Biscuits' offense finally got going in the eighth. Granden Goetzman tripled in a pair of runs and scored on a wild pitch, but they would get no closer. Former Rays minor leaguer Matt Ramsey saved his second game of the season against his old club. Starter Hunter Wood was charged with three runs on six hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings. Edwin Fierro allowed all three runners he inherited to score.
Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (0-2)
Charlotte was unable to slow down Bradenton in a 9-3 loss to the Marauders. Kevin Padlo drove in the first run of the game with a double in the first, but Bradenton scored the next four runs and continued to tack on insurance throughout the remainder of the game. All three Stone Crabs pitchers allowed three runs, beginning with starter Blake Bivens, who struck out seven in five innings. Jake Cronenworth and Brett Sullivan each had two of Charlotte's eight hits.
Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-1)
Bowling Green erased a couple early deficits to earn a 6-4 win over Fort Wayne. Nathaniel Lowe's two-run single in the third gave the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead, but a home run off Brock Burke a half inning later returned the edge to the TinCaps. RBI hits from Jesus Sanchez and Miles Mastrobuoni put Bowling Green back up 5-4, and Garrett Whitley's sixth-inning homer provided insurance. Starter Brock Burke allowed a run in three innings despite walking four, and Roel Ramirez allowed two runs in three innings.
