Rays vs Blue Jays Preview: Chris Archer makes his second start of the season

Chris Archer looks to snap the Rays streak of losing every other game

MLB: New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight, the Rays will play the third game of a four game set against the Toronto Blue Jays with the series so far being split between the two clubs. First pitch is slated for 6:10pm, with Fox Sports Sun and WDAE covering the game.

The Rays so far this year are 3-2, third in the AL East while the Blue Jays sit at 1-3 and in last place in the division.

Starting Pitchers

Chris Archer vs Aaron Sanchez

Chris Archer had a tremendous Opening Day start against the Yankees where he battled for seven innings, but only allowed two runs on seven hits while he walked one and struck out five en route to a season opening victory.

Aaron Sanchez Scouting Report

Over 30 starts last year, Sanchez had a 3.00 ERA and a 3.55 FIP, to go along with a 20.4 K% and 8.0 BB% over 192 innings pitched. Sanchez is an extreme groundball pitcher who can carve up right handed bats with ease.

His Arsenal

Sanchez will attack hitters with four different pitches: A Fastball and Sinker in the mid 90’s, Change-up in the high 80’s, and a curveball in the high 70’s.

Against lefties, Sanchez goes to his sinker a lot, using it 46% of the time, while he also mixes in his three other pitches effectively. Against righties, they’ll be lucky to see anything but his sinker, as that is all he needs to put them away. On the off chance he does use his other pitches.
