Jose De Leon to make first rehab start

Jose De Leon will make his first start that’ll show up in a box score tonight as he’ll make a rehab appearance with the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Baseball America in their latest update has De Leon ranked as the 38th top prospect in all of baseball as well as the Rays 3rd best prospect. He was originally a 24th round draft pick in the 2013 draft, but after dominating the lower levels of the minor leagues he became one of the top prospects in all of baseball.

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired De Leon during the off-season a deal that sent Logan Forsythe to the Los Angeles Dodgers. De Leon spent part of spring training with the Rays before being optioned. Once optioned, De Leon joined Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

As minor league rosters were announced, De Leon was placed on the 7-day DL with the Durham Bulls due to a flexor issue. De Leon had been working in extended spring training.

One De Leon completes his rehab assignment, he’ll likely join the Durham Bulls starting rotation in Triple-A. Although, he does have some major league experience under his belt as he started four games with the Dodgers last year down the stretch.
