Rays DOTF 5/19: Brandon Lowe continues his tear

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Veterans Michael McKenry and Shane Peterson each went deep for Durham while Adrian Rondon homered for Bowling Green.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (25-14)

The Bulls jumped out ahead early and held on long enough to claim the 8-5 victory over Gwinnett. Shane Peterson got it going with a full count, two out, three-run home run in the first inning. McKenry followed with a two-run home run in the second inning. Willy Adames' two-run double made it 7-0 and knocked starter Patrick Weigel from the game. Jake Bauers grounded out to score Adames, and the score was 8-0. Yonny Chirinos pitched well with the lead, but yielded a two-run home run to Mel Rojas Jr. in the sixth inning. Gwinnett would push for three more runs, but Durham held on to win. Chirinos continued his strong AAA career, moving to 4-0 with a 2.57 ERA.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (22-18)

The Biscuits were bested by the Jackson Generals by a score of 11-6. Cade Gotta went deep in the first inning to put Montgomery out to an early lead of 2-0 Jamie Westbrook would reply with a home run of his own to make the score 2-1. The Biscuits scored two runs on an error, but Kevin Cron's home run tightened the game up to 4-2. Jackson tied it up in the fifth after an RBI single and RBI fielder's choice. Edwin Fierro proceeded to unravel in the sixth inning. Five hits, a walk, a hit by pitch and an error would lead to six runs and a substantial 10-4 deficit. The Biscuits would show some fight in the 7th inning as Justin O'Conner hit a 2-run home run butKelly Dugan went deep in the 9th inning to extend the General's lead to 11-6 headed into the bottom of the ninth.

Advanced-A Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (19-21)

Port Charlotte struggled to score in a lopsided 7-1 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays. The Stone Crabs jumped out in front in the first inning with an RBI single from Jake Cronenworth, but the offense went dormant after that. The rehabbing Troy Tulowitzki and Max Pentecost singled in a run each in the third inning. Dunedin posted two more in the sixth inning after an error by Dalton Kelly. The onslaught of singles continued into the eight, with three more runs coming in to make the 7-1 final. Genisis Cabrera pitched well into the 6th, but Kelly's error and no offensive support tagged him with a loss. Ryan Borucki would receive the win after throwing 5 13 one run innings with no walks and five strikeouts.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (17-21)

The Hot Rods let a tight game get away, losing 5-4 to the Dayton Dragons in walk-off fashion. Adrian Navas got beat up early, giving up four runs in the span of three innings. His bats would back him up, however. Robbie Tenerowicz slammed a two-run home run out to right field, followed by a two-run home run from Adrian Rondon in the same inning. Peter Bayer threw 5 perfect innings in relief, but the Hot Rods couldn't get the run they needed. Eventually, they fell in the ninth. Elias Torres would strike out Luis Gonzalez to get it to two outs, but Michael Beltre delivered the walk-off single, and the Dragons topped Bowling Green 5-4. It was a welcomed sight to see Adrian Rondon go deep after a slow start.
