Rays prospects and minor leagues: Williams returns in Biscuits win

Montgomery's offense got a boost with the return of Justin Williams Tuesday

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

College baseball's postseason starts Thursday. Here are my picks to win the regionals this weekend, and teams in bold will advance to Omaha. My championship prediction is italicized: Oregon State, Vanderbilt, UNC, Houston, South Florida, Wake Forest, LSU, Southern Miss, Texas Tech, UCF, Virginia, Arkansas, Louisville, Kentucky, BYU and San Diego State.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (30-20)

Durham was outplayed in its Game 1, 6-1 loss to Rochester in Tuesday's doubleheader. Ryan Yarbrough allowed all six Red Wings runs in six innings. Shane Peterson doubled in Durham's only run.

Yoel Espinal and Andrew Kittredge combined to shut down Rochester in Durham's 4-0 win in Game 2. Espinal started and threw four scoreless innings in the spot start, and Kittredge wrapped up the two-hit shutout over the final three frames. Mallex Smith drove in Johnny Field to start the scoring in the first, and Field drove in a run himself in the two-run second.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (27-24)

Montgomery rode a seven-run first inning to a comfortable 8-3 win over Tennessee. Granden Goetzman opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Justin O'Conner drove in a pair. Later in the inning, Andrew Velazquez delivered the biggest blow with a three-run homer. Starter Greg Harris had to get out of a jam or two, and he finished with six strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Justin Williams went 1-for-4 in his return from the DL.

Nathaniel Lowe doubled in two in the Hot Rods' three-run third, and Fox drove in two of his three in the sixth after the TinCaps tied the game. Fort Wayne then scored five of its own in the sixth, but Robbie Tenerowicz's homer to lead off the seventh started a run of Bowling Green scoring six of the final seven runs of the game. Starter Adrian Navas was charged with eight runs in five-plus innings.
