Tonight, the Tampa Bay Rays will hope to keep their winning ways on the road going as they begin a three game set with the Seattle Mariners. The Rays have won five consecutive road series heading to play against the Mariners, having just taken two of three from the Texas Rangers.
The Rays winning ways as of late has improved their record to 29-27, but still in 4th place in the American League East and four and half games behind the division leaders. However, the team is just one game back of the second wild card spot.
The Seattle Mariners meanwhile are coming off a series victory over the Rockies, taking three of the four games in Colorado. Despite the series victory though, the Mariners are 25-30 and are more than 13 games behind the Astros in the division.
Starting Pitchers
Going to the hill tonight for the Rays will be Jake Odorizzi, who is coming off another outing in which he allowed two runs. So far in 2017, he has given up two runs or less in six of his eight starts (injury starts excluded). His last outing came against the Twins in Minnesota where he allowed two runs on seven hits — one home run — while he walked four and struck out four before departing with two outs in the sixth inning.
His opponent on the mound will be Christian Bergman, who has seen starts that are polar opposites his last two times out. On the 23rd against the Nationals, he got shelled to the tune of 10 runs on 14 hits, including 4 HR, over just four innings pitched. However, his last time out, he held the Boston Red Sox scoreless for seven innings.
