Rays DOTF 6/22: Blake Snell continues to cruise in Durham

Blake Snell and Casey Gillaspie lead Rays prospect performances down on the farm.

Blake Snell continued his strong run with Durham since his demotion. Casey Gillaspie had a good day at the plate in what has been a rough season.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (43-28)

The Durham Bulls defeated the Norfolk Tides 6-4 behind a strong start by Blake Snell. Snell threw six very good innings. He struck out eight and walked one. The only blemish was a solo homer allowed in the sixth. The offense gave him plenty of room to work with jumping on the Tides for six runs in the front five frames. Casey Gillaspie and Shane Peterson led the way with three hits including a double from each. Brad Boxberger didn’t have a successful rehab appearance. Boxberger threw 0.2 innings and walked four batters. Diego Castillo came in and got out of the bases loaded jam. Boxberger only threw 13 of his 31 pitches for strikes. Wilson Ramos went zero for four, but caught the full nine innings.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (37-33)

The Montgomery Biscuits had the day off.

Class A-Advanced Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (31-37)

The Port Charlotte Stone Crabs beat the Palm Beach Cardinals 6-4. The Stone Crabs got off to a quick start. They put up four runs in the bottom of the first. Brandon Lowe has continued to hit after missing a few days after getting hit by a pitch. Dalton Kelly hit a two run double in the first. In the sixth the Cardinals closed the lead to 5-4, but the Stone Crabs held on for the win.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods enjoyed the day off.

Class A Short Season Hudson Valley Renegades (1-1)

The Hudson Valley Renegades suffered their first defeat of the season falling 3-2 to the Staten Island Yankees. Through four the Renegades held a 2-1 lead, but allowed two late runs. Vidal Brujan hit his first homer of the year. Jhonleider Salinas had a good start with four innings of one run ball. Salinas struck out five and walked one. Resly Linares threw two shutout innings and struck out three.

The DSL Rays 1 lost to the DSL Marlins 6-4. The Rays 1 held a 4-2 lead through five couldn’t hold the lead. The Rays 1 didn’t put much together offensively as they combined for five hits including two doubles and earning one walk.

Short Season DSL Rays 2 (8-7)

The DSL Rays 2 fell 3-1 to the DSL Indians. All the scoring was done in the first four frames. Cristhian Pedroza had two hits.
