Rays DOTF 6/29: Willy Adames homers

Zach Rutherford and Andrew Miller hit their first professional home runs.

Willy Adames and Johnny Field homered for Durham. Recent draftees Zach Rutherford and Andrew Miller hit their first professional homers.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (48-30)

The Durham Bulls fell to the Indianapolis Indians 11-6. The ball was flying out of the park. The teams combined for six homers. The Bulls homers came from Johnny Field and Willy Adames. Hunter Wood got roughed up. Wood allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings and allowed three homers. Chih-Wei Hu didn’t fare much better allowing three runs, two earned, in two innings and allowed one homer.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (40-35)

The game was suspended in the bottom of the first inning due to rain. In the top of the first Grant Kay hit a one out triple, but was stranded. Justin O’Conner added a two out walk. Greg Harris was able to retire the two batters he faced in the bottom of the inning before the game was suspended.

Class A-Advanced Port Charlotte Stone Crabs (34-40)

The Port Charlotte Stone Crabs were defeated by the Tampa Yankees 2-1. Brett Sullivan scored the lone run for the Stone Crabs in the bottom of the ninth. Thomas Milone was the only Stone Crab to notch two hits, but Peter Maris, Ryan Boldt, and Nathaniel Lowe reached base twice with a single and walk each.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (33-41)

The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 10-6. This is the thirteenth time the Hot Rods have scored ten plus runs. Jesus Sanchez was the only Hot Rod held hitless. Daniel De La Calle only had one hit, but every other starter had multiple hits. The top of the lineup did a bulk of the work with Lucius Fox picking up three hits and two walks. Josh Lowe hit a homer and a double while picking up a career best four RBI. Robbie Tenerowicz picked up three hits including a homer.

Class A Short Season Hudson Valley Renegades (6-2)

The Hudson Valley Renegades came back to defeat the Lowell Spinners 8-7 in eleven innings. In the seventh inning the Renegades rallied for two runs to tie the game at five. After allowing two runs in the top of the eleventh the Renegades came back with three innings in the bottom of the inning to cap the walk off victory.

Class A Short Season Princeton Rays (1-6)

The Princeton Rays fell to the Bristol Pirates 10-6. The Rays fell behind 9-0 through four, but put together a five run seventh to give them a chance. The Princeton Rays only five hits and five walks. Recent draftees Zach Rutherford and Andrew Miller hit their first minor league homers.

Rookie DSL Rays 1 (6-16)

The DSL Rays 1 lost to the DSL Athletics 7-5. The teams exchanged two runs in the second inning, but the Rays 1 couldn’t recover from a five run fifth. Raider Brito and Luis Arias contributed two hits a piece.

Rookie DSL Rays 2 (9-7)

The DSL Rays 2 defeated the DSL Indians/Brewers 7-3. After the Indians/Brewers tied the game at two in the seventh the Rays 2 pulled away with a five run eighth. The Rays 2 offense combined for eleven hits, all singles, and four walks.

Rookie GCL Rays (0-3)

The GCL Rays lost both games of a double header to the GCL Red Sox without scoring a run. In the first game the Red Sox won 5-0 and in the second they won 1-0. In game one Jake Stone picked up three of the Rays five hits. In the second game Jonathan Aranda had a double.
