Last night, the Marc Topkin reported that a trio of injured Rays would begin rehab assignments with the Charlotte Stone Crabs, with the most notable of which being Wilson Ramos. The other two players are Brad Boxberger and Peter Bourjos.
Ramos is nearing his Rays debut, he has been sidelined all season as he has recovered from surgery dating back to last year. Ramos had a career year in 2016 and he received the Silver Slugger award for his efforts. He would have been in line for a nice payday, but unfortunately as the season was coming to a close, Ramos tore his ACL and required surgery, seriously limiting his potential suitors, thus allowing the Rays to sign him to a two year deal.
Brad Boxberger is also nearing his 2017 debut, injuries have plagued him for the past 18 months as he only pitched in 27 games last season, after pitching in over 130 games from 2014-2015. The Rays are hoping he returns to his 2014-2015 numbers to help solidify the Rays bullpen.
Peter Bourjos has had a brief stay on the DL, especially compared to the other two players he’ll be rehabbing with for the Stone Crabs. Bourjos hit the DL at the end of May with what was diagnosed as “Tennis Elbow”.
