Rays prospects and minor leagues: Law, Renegades end losing streak

New, 4 comments

There was not much action on Tuesday’s minor league schedule

Zacrey Law is now behind the plate

While we’re still at the All-Star break, who do you think will represent the Rays at next year’s Futures Game? I’d like to see Brendan McKay represent the U.S. On the international side, Lucius Fox might not be bad again because I think it’s good to include as many countries as possible. On the other hand, Jesus Sanchez may be hard to pass up if he keeps hitting.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (55-34)

Durham was off.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (10-9)

A 5-0 deficit was too much to overcome in Montgomery’s 8-4 loss to Tennessee. The Smokies jumped all over newcomer Logan Darnell with two runs in the first, and a home run by Kevin Cornelius in each of the next two innings extended the league to five. Dalton Kelly’s two-run homer in the fourth cut the deficit to three, but the Biscuits would get no closer. Nathan Lukes also went deep.

OF Justin Williams: 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
C Nick Ciuffo: 0-for-3, 1 BB, 1 K
OF Nathan Lukes: 3-for-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI
CF Grant Kay: 0-for-5, 2 K
1B Dalton Kelly: 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB

Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (8-8)

Charlotte was off.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (12-7)

Bowling Green was off.

Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (7-13)

Hudson Valley finally ended its 11-game losing streak with a 7-4 win over West Virginia. The game didn’t get off to a great start when the Black Bears rallied for a run with two outs in the first, but the Renegades quickly rebounded. Zacrey Law doubled and scored in the second, and Matt Eureste tripled and scored in the three-run frame. In the fifth, Rafelin Lorenzo delivered a three-run homer. Starter Jhonleider Salinas struck out six and allowed three runs — two earned — in five innings.

2B Vidal Brujan: 0-for-4, 1 K
C Zacrey Law: 2-for-3, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
C Rafelin Lorenzo: 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI

RHP Jhonleider Salinas: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 6 K

Rookie Princeton Rays (5-12)

Princeton was off.

Rookie Gulf Coast League Rays (4-10)

The GCL Rays held on for a 3-2 win over the GCL Red Sox. After starter Miguel Lara tossed five hitless frames, the rehabbing Jonny Venters struck out two in another scoreless inning. Luis Leon tripled and scored in the first, and Tony Pena’s two-run double in the seventh proved crucial when Ronal Hernandez allowed a two-run homer in the ninth.

3B Carlos Vargas: 0-for-3, 1 R
OF Pedro Diaz: 0-for-3, 2 K
OF Jake Stone: 0-for-3, 2 K

LHP Jonny Venters: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
