Danny Farquhar, a 30-year-old right-handed relief pitcher acquired from Seattle as part of the Nate Karns trade prior to the 2016 season, has been released:
#Rays release RHP Danny Farquhar, who had been outrighted to Durham
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) July 20, 2017
Farquhar had started the season with the Rays, but had been outrighted to the Durham Bulls in early July.
In 2017 he appeared in 37 games, with an ERA of 4.11 and 4.22 FIP. At the time of his demotion he had been struggling with his control, walking 5.7 batters per nine innings. Known for reverse splits, he was often used to face left-handed hitters.
Most likely his release anticipates the return of Jaime Schultz, who is currently rehabbing with the Stone Crabs, and Jose de Leon, rehabbing with the Gulf Coast Rays.
