The Rays have completed a trade for 34-year-old right-handed reliever Sergio Romo. Once a mainstay of the San Francisco Giants bullpen, Romo had signed with the Dodgers in the off season. He has struggled this year, however, and they designated him for assignment.
The Dodgers will receive a player to be named later or cash.
Romo will be activated by the Rays tomorrow, at which time a corresponding roster move will be announced.
Romo’s signing is not, according to Marc Topkin, the major bullpen upgrade the Rays have reportedly been seeking, so there could be more trade activity coming.
