Will tonight be the night the Rays end their losing steak, that has now reached five games following last night’s shutout loss to the Baltimrore Orioles?
The Rays are now 51-49 on the season, but fortunately for them, the Boston Red Sox have hit a mini-skid as well, dropping three games in a well to keep them just three and a half games back in the Division race. Unfortunately for the Rays, the Kansas City Royals won’t stop winning and have taken sole possession of the second Wild Card spot with the Rays trailing a game back.
Starting Pitchers
Jacob Faria returns to the mound following the worst outing of his brief major league career as the Oakland Athletics got to him for four runs, knocking him out of the game after just five innings. Faria seemed well on his way to another quality start, until he just lost the strike zone and ended up allowing four walks to go along with six hits, but he did manage to pick up four strikeouts as well.
Wade Miley has not been very good thus far in 2017, as he is struggling with his command mightily and opponents are just crushing him whenever he does come into the zone. Opponents just aren’t offering much at what Miley is offering as they’re swinging just 40% of the time against him, which is the lowest in the majors among qualified pitchers.
His last nine starts have been just awful as he is averaging just over four inning a start, while he has a ERA of 10.04 over those outings.
