Burch Smith is alive. Smith continues his rehab from Tommy John surgery that has seen him miss the better part of three years. Wednesday night’s gem was nice to see out of a guy that the Rays received as part of the Wil Myers trade.
Top prospects Jake Bauers and Jesus Sanchez homered for the second straight night. Bowling Green continued their offensive onslaught with another double digit run night.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (74-48)
The Durham Bulls defeated the Syracuse Chief 3-2. The Bulls went with a bullpen day with Mike Broadway getting the start. Chaz Roe struck out all four batters faced and Ryne Stanek worked a clean ninth inning for the save. The Bulls turned to power to win the game in the sixth inning. Jake Bauers tied the game at two with a solo shot. Two batters later Patrick Leonard hit a homer to score the game winning run.

The Montgomery Biscuits fell to the Birmingham Barons 9-4. Almost all the scoring was done in the front four frames as Birmingham sprinted out to a 9-3 lead. Nick Ciuffo led the way with two hits and a walk. Anthony Misiewicz got hit around and wasn’t helped by his defense as he allowed eight runs, four earned, in 2.1 innings.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs defeated the Jupiter Hammerheads 2-0 with Burch Smith throwing six no hit innings. Burch Smith had his best start as part of his two plus year rehab. He struck out nine and walked two in six innings. Homers by Kevin Padlo and Riley Unroe was all the offense the Stone Crabs would need.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods offense led the way in a 11-3 victory over the Lake County Captains. The Hot Rods offense scattered the runs throughout the game. They never put up more than three runs in an inning and only failed to score in two frames. Jesus Sanchez extended his team lead with his 14th homer of the season.

The Hudson Valley Renegades rallied in the eighth inning on the way to a 6-5 victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats. The Renegades scored two runs off 2017 1st round pick J.B. Bukauskas in three plus innings. The winning run scored on a fielding error by the ValleyCats center fielder.

The game between the DSL Rays 2 couldn’t overcome a five run seventh inning in a 8-4 loss to the DSL Indians/Brewers. Back to back doubles by Diego Infante and Robert Valera to start the fourth inning sparked a three run inning to give the Rays 2 a short lived 4-1 lead.
