Prior to tonight’s matchup against the Kansas City Royals, the Tampa Bay Rays announced that they have activated Matt Andriese from the 60-day DL, optioned Chih-Wei Hu to Triple-A durham, and that they have designated Taylor Featherston for assignment.
Andriese went on the DL back in early June after exiting a start early with hip pain. He would be diagnosed with right hip stress reaction. He began his rehab assignment back on August 13th and made a total of three outings before being activated. Prior to his DL stint, Andriese had been very solid for the Rays as he has a 3.54 ERA/4.64 FIP this year in the Rays starting rotation. However, he’ll join the Rays bullpen for tonight’s game.
Chih-Wei Hu’s is being optioned back to Durham after another brief call-up with the team, in which he didn’t make an appearance. He’ll likely be back up in a few days though once roster expand at the beginning of September.
Taylor Featherson provided the Rays some decent depth during his brief tenure with the Rays this summer. Acquired by Tampa Bay in early June, Featherston played in 17 games. Over that time, he slashed .179/.277/.359 with 2 HR, good for a 69 wRC+
