Rays prospects and minor leagues: Honeywell handed 4-game suspension

With fans still clamoring for his promotion, Brent Honeywell is instead suspended for a few days

As far as I know, Marc Topkin was the first to report that the suspension was for disciplinary reasons. I’ll leave the speculation to others. I’m not sure how significant it is if he’s only going to miss perhaps one start.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (80-52)

Durham scored four in the ninth to take a 5-2 win over Charlotte. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases with one out, Shane Peterson cleared the bases with a triple, and Patrick Leonard doubled home Peterson. Mike Broadway started and threw three perfect innings, and Chase Whitley gave up a run in two innings.

Bowling Green needed more offense in its 3-1 loss to West Michigan. It took the Hot Rods until the fourth inning to get their first baserunner, and they didn’t score until the eighth when Miles Mastrobuoni drove in Jim Haley. However, the Whitecaps responded immediately with two in the bottom half of the inning off Jayson McKinley. Kenny Rosenberg struck out seven and allowed a run in 5 23 innings.

Hudson Valley scored four times in the first and held on for a 5-3 win over Tri-City. The ValleyCats scored two in their half of the first, but their lead was short-lived. Zacrey Law’s bases-loaded single started the scoring, and Deion Tansel’s two-run single later put the Renegades in front. Starter Resly Linares rebounded to allow just the two runs in 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts.

With two outs in the ninth, Michael Smith tied the game with an RBI single, and Zach Rutherford followed with a walkoff hit. Starter Dylan Thompson was tagged with two unearned runs in 2 23 innings.
