Anyone following the news these days is aware of the very difficult economic and political circumstances facing the people of Venezuela. No doubt the increasingly dire conditions in that South American country weigh heavily on the minds even of Venezuelans who live abroad, including those who play baseball in the US.
Today the Rays are sporting shirts featuring the Venezuelan flag during their early practice session. It is meant as a gesture of support for this beleaguered nation:

Three members of the current Rays team — Wilson Ramos, Jesus Sucre, and Jose Alvarado -- are natives of Venezuela.
